Hasbara and PR
The ZFA concentrates on promoting and ensuring that Israel’s position known and understood in the Jewish community and in the broader Australian community. The ZFA presents the Australian Jewish community’s views on issues relating to opinion formers and decision makers throughout Australia.
The ZFA continues to enjoy excellent working relations with both the Federal Government and Opposition, as well as Members of Federal and State Parliaments and Government Departments. The ZFA equally has excellent working relations with the Israeli Cabinet, President and Government Departments.
Partially as a result of the effort the ZFA dedicated to the aftermath of the 1997 Maccabiah bridge tragedy, the ZFA also has succeeded in building up a highly respected and prominent media profile, cementing the ZFA’s position as a focal point for consultation and information on numerous issues relating to Israel and the ever changing situation there.
The ZFA also continues to be involved with the Hasbara – public policy – issues of all the State Zionist Councils. The Councils and the ZFA see Jewish and Zionist education and information an important priority, and as such, Hasbara is a key means of addressing this goal. To this end, the President of the ZFA, as well as the Presidents of the various Councils (who are Vice Presidents of the ZFA) often attend communal meetings and are invited to speak in a range of forums, addressing members of government, leaders of the community, Jewish leaders, schools, students (both school and university), and many others.
