The Zionist Federation of Australia is a vibrant, dynamic roof body with a large, broad affiliate base committed to ensuring that Zionism and Israel remain at the core of the Jewish experience. Set up in 1927 in Melbourne by such people as Sir John Monash and Rabbi I. Brodie, the ZFA has continued throughout the years to be relevant and active. Through the promotion of Aliyah and the fostering of Zionist, Jewish and Hebrew education and culture, the ZFA has been able to uphold its ideal of representing the Jews of Australia in carrying out the aims of Zionism. The ZFA sees its role as carrying out these objectives by having a strong voice in the community and by being actively involved in the promotion of Zionism. In order to achieve this, the ZFA consults with the Australian and Israeli governments, is represented on a number of international Jewish and Zionist bodies, and is the Australian representative of the Jewish Agency For Israel (JAFI) and the World Zionist Organisation (WZO). The work of the ZFA is implemented through central offices and an infrastructure of State Zionist Councils and elected Office Bearers responsible for the smooth running of the organisation.
