Media and Advocacy Position



The Zionist Federation of Australia is seeking a qualified and motivated individual who will take on the role of Media and Advocacy Director, for a maternity leave replacement position.

The position is 30 hours per week, for a period of 5 months commencing 7 January 2019.

The duties include:

·        Weekly Israel Advocacy Bulletins

o   The ZFA produces and distributes regular original advocacy newsletters, featuring and analysing current issues relating to Israel/ Zionism. The incumbent is required to research and write these pieces as well as distributing them widely. In addition to the weekly newsletters, additional analysis pieces are to be produced when major issues arise.

·        Local media

o   Monitoring local media and recommending where action needs to be taken;

o   Preparing responses to media;

o   Creating opportunities for media exposure;

o   Developing briefing notes for Zionist movement spokespeople presenting to media.

·        Statements

o   Preparation of statements on current or emerging issues

o   Issuing statements to Jewish, general and/ or social media as appropriate.

·        Opinion pieces

o   Prepare op-ed articles for submission to various outlets  – anticipated one per month.

·        Developing media relationships

o   Create relationships with relevant personnel in media

o   Expand the media database of the ZFA.

·        Social media posting

o   Work strategically on the ZFA’s social media platforms to ensure consistent, high traction and high quality messaging and engagement.

o   Increase the engagement of the community on the ZFA social media platforms.

o   Regular posting of articles, statements and other content on the ZFA’s social media platforms.

·        Political engagement

o   Create and maintain relationships with relevant political advisers and politicians

o   Create and maintain a relevant and up to date database of politicians and advisers

o   Create opportunities for discussion and engagement with politicians and other general community “influencers”.




The position reports directly to the ZFA Executive Director, and the incumbent will also have direct contact with lay leadership, in particular the President, in the formulation of statements and messages.
