Shalom and G’day to all our readers in our first newsletter of 2016! We look forward to keeping you up to date on all things happening in Israel and the ZFA offices.
We hoped that we would have no sad news to report from Israel. We hoped 2016 would usher in only good news. That wasn’t to be.
We joined with Israel to mourn the recent death of Dafna Meir. Killed by a terrorist who entered her home and stabbed her in front of her children. Dafna, a mother to six children (two of whom she adopted with her husband,) a wife, a nurse and now a memory. A beautiful dear memory.
Alon Bakal, 26 and Shimon Ruimi, 30, were murdered by an Arab-Israeli terrorist, when he opened fire in a bar on a busy Friday afternoon in Tel Aviv. Shimon was there to celebrate a friend’s birthday and Alon managed the bar. Just a day earlier, Alon had sent a WhatsApp to his family saying, “it’s great, it’s fun, I love life”. Now they are memories. Beautiful dear memories.
Genadi Kaufman, 40, was stabbed outside of Hebron’s Tomb of the Patriarchs and after three weeks he succumbed to his injuries. Kaufman, of Kiryat Arba, was a father of two. Now a memory. A beautiful dear memory.
Rabbi Reuven Biermacher, 45, died in hospital after being repeatedly stabbed by two Palestinian terrorists in Jerusalem. He left behind a wife and seven children. Ofer Ben-Ari also died in the attack. He may have been killed by gunfire wounds in an attempt to neutralise the terrorists. He left behind a wife and two children. Now they are memories. Beautiful dear memories.
May Dafna, Alon, Shimon, Genadi, Rabbi Reuven and Ofer’s memories be a blessing to all who knew them and loved them.

We are all very excited about Israeli tennis player Dudi Sela. He caused a huge upset at the Australian Open defeating Spain’s Fernando Verdasco (who beat Nadal) Dudi said:- “Many Jews and Israelis come to watch me and it is a great atmosphere for me and I don’t want to let them down.” Go Sela!!
