The Zionist Federation of Australia welcomes the NSW Parliament endorsement of the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism.
The bipartisan Parliamentary motion endorsed the December 2021 decision by NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet to adopt the definition. In doing so, it became the first Parliament in Australia to do so.
ZFA President Jeremy Leibler said, “I congratulate the NSW Parliament for this welcome and historic motion. NSW has joined the dozens of state- and provincial-level parliaments around the world in adopting the definition. Three dozen countries and hundreds of institutions, including the world’s leading universities, have embraced the definition, because it is the best description of modern antisemitism.”
Mr Leibler continued, “While it is unfortunate that some members of the NSW Parliament chose to speak against the working definition, this merely highlights the need for more education about it.”
