Statement on UN Pillay Commission Report

The Zionist Federation of Australia (ZFA) unequivocally rejects the September 2025 report of the UN Pillay Commission accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza. This is a baseless and biased assault on truth and justice.

It is the height of absurdity that the UN Human Rights Council, which includes some of the world’s worst human rights violators: Cuba, Qatar, China, Sudan, Algeria, Bolivia, Kuwait, Burundi, Vietnam, Kyrgyzstan, Bangladesh and the Democratic Republic of Congo, presumes to lecture the only democracy in the Middle East.

The Commission has effectively redefined war itself as genocide. Its reasoning suggests that whenever a country engaged in military operations, the resulting casualties alone are evidence of genocidal intent. This standard has never been applied to any other conflict in history, nor is it applied to groups like Hamas or the Houthis, who proudly proclaim their intent to murder Israeli civilians. That it is applied only to Israel exposes the true purpose of this exercise: not justice, but demonisation.

The report erases the horrors of October 7, ignores Hamas’ campaign of terror and systematic use of human shields, and relies on unverified data while dismissing Israel’s unprecedented humanitarian efforts, including the delivery of more than two million tons of aid and 14 million litres of water every day. Civilian casualties, the tragic consequence of a war initiated by Hamas, are deliberately misrepresented as intent.

ZFA President Jeremy Leibler said “This report sets a dangerous precedent. It erases the crimes of Hamas while attempting to criminalise Israel’s lawful right to self-defence.”

ZFA CEO Alon Cassuto added “By embracing this politicised narrative, the UN has destroyed what little credibility it had left. The Commission has no legitimacy and must be dissolved.”

The ZFA stands proudly with Israel and its right to defend its citizens against terror.
