The Zionist Federation of Australia (ZFA) welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, though remains cautious about its viability.
“Notwithstanding that Hamas and other terrorist groups have violated every previous Gaza ceasefire”, said ZFA President Dr Danny Lamm, “I am relieved this violence appears to be at an end. No one except Hamas has celebrated the needless loss of life on both sides. Israel did not want this war.”
“I honestly hope it is the last time Israel will be forced to take up arms to defend itself”, he continued. “However, I am genuinely concerned about how long the ceasefire will last. It is clear Hamas remains committed to the violent destruction of Israel. If the international community once again looks the other way as Hamas re-arms, war will most likely recur once Hamas feels strong enough,” said Dr Lamm.
