The Zionist Federation of Australia (ZFA) welcomes media reports that a psychiatrist panel has found Malka Leifer fit to stand extradition trial.

On Thursday, Israeli media reported that alleged child abuser Malka Leifer has been found fit to stand extradition trial by a panel appointed by an Israeli court. The panel is scheduled to present its findings to the court on Tuesday 14 January. Australia seeks Leifer’s extradition to face 74 charges of sexual molestation and rape, allegedly conducted whilst principal at a religious school in Melbourne.

ZFA President Jeremy Leibler said on Friday, “News that the panel has found Malka Leifer fit to stand trial is a very welcome development.” He continued, “I look forward to this being made official on Tuesday, and for the extradition trial to begin soon after. In the name of justice, Leifer needs to be extradited to Australia to stand trial here. Her alleged victims have waited too long already.”
