The Zionist Federation of Australia is deeply saddened by the murder of Eliyahu David Kay and the wounding of four others in the Hamas terrorist attack in Jerusalem on Sunday.
ZFA President Jeremy Leibler said, “In his life, Eli was dedicated to the State of Israel, and he was killed on his way to work, where he shared his knowledge and passion at one of the most significant sites for Israel and the Jewish people. His loss is collective as well as personal. I offer my deepest condolences to his family and fiancée.”
“Eli’s story was one of a committed and genuine Zionist: a graduate of a Masa Israel program, he went on to make aliyah, serve as a lone soldier and was building his family and life in Israel. We mourn with his family and community” said ZFA CEO, Ginette Searle.
Hamas in its entirety has been designated as terrorist organisation by the US, Canada, the EU and the UK. In October, the Australian Parliamentary Intelligence and Security Committee recommended Australia do likewise. Hamas carried out this terrorist attack. The ZFA calls on the Australian Government to proscribe Hamas in its entirety.
The Australian Jewish community stands with Eli’s family and all of Israel in their mourning, and wishes a full recovery to those injured in the brutal attack.
