Zionist Federation of Australia President Jeremy Leibler welcomed the news. “After such a long period of uncertainty”, he said, “I hope a Bennet–Lapid government will provide Israelis with the political stability they deserve.”
He continued, “In recent times, Israeli politics has become increasingly fractious; personality has meant more than policy. That so many parties, representing such a broad cross-section of Israeli society, can form a coalition provides hope that this government will move Israel towards a national healing. Israeli President Rivlin warned that four tribes were at risk of tearing Israel apart; I sincerely hope that this government can help bring them closer.”
Mr Leibler also paid tribute to Benjamin Netanyahu. “Notwithstanding his current legal troubles, it remains that Mr Netanyahu is Israel’s longest-serving prime minister. He has made a profound contribution to Israel, not least changing Israel’s regional footing by signing multiple peace treaties under the Abraham Accords.”
